What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Reiki treatments are increasingly accepted in health and community care facilities including hospitals, hospices and cancer support units.  Reiki is the most accessed complementary health treatment for cancer and leukaemia patients. Many patients report significant improvements in their level of pain, fatigue, nausea and breathing.

Is it safe & will it hurt?

Reiki is a non-invasive, gentle, yet powerful method of healing.  No definitely it does not hurt.  I usually play soft music & have low lighting during the session but if you prefer silence then please let me know.  If you have  a favorite soothing music then feel free to bring it along.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?

What one experiences during a Reiki treatment varies somewhat from person to person. However, feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by all.  As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings a state of peace and well-being is experienced. Some drift off to sleep or report floating outside their bodies or have visions . At the end of the treatment, you should feel refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.

“I feel very refreshed and seem to be thinking more clearly.” “I think I fell asleep.” “I can’t believe how hot your hands got!” “I feel more relaxed than even after a massage.” “My headache is gone.” These are some of things people typically say after a Reiki session.

What can be treated with Reiki?

Reiki has had a positive affect on all forms of illness and negative conditions. This includes minor things like head or stomach aches, bee stings, colds, flu, tension and anxiety as well as serious illness like heart disease, cancer, leukemia, etc. The side effects of regular medical treatments can also be reduced. This includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post operative pain and depression as well as improving the healing rate and reducing the time needed to stay in the hospital.

Stress reduction with some improvement in ones physical and psychological condition are what most people experience.

Does one have to stop seeing a regular doctor or psychologist in order to receive a Reiki treatment?

No. Reiki works in conjunction with regular medical or psychological treatment. If one . Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care and will improve the results.

Is it safe for pregnant women?

Are there any side effects from a Reiki treatment?

Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment.   It is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest in the days after a treatment.

Does Private Health insurance cover Reiki treatments?

What happens after the session?

I do not diagnose, as that is not part of Reiki. I may make common sense suggestions for after-care, such as drinking water and following your body’s needs.

Although people often leave a Reiki session feeling refreshed, sometimes they notice feeling more tired in the evening than usual. This should not viewed as an adverse reaction, but rather as the body’s natural healing response. People commonly report a sense of calm and mental clarity and sleeping well after Reiki.
